Blessed Sacrament is proud to send middle and high school-aged youth to WorkCamp.

WorkCamp is a week-long gathering of young people and adult volunteers who, in following our Lord’s commandment to Love one another, directly serve their neighbors. It is an invitation to conversion through intense prayer, fellowship, and service.

Service

The most overt feature of WorkCamp is direct service to residents of Virginia whose homes are in critical need of repair.  WorkCamp strives to make each home it visits “warmer, dryer, and safer”.  Projects include roof replacement, access ramp construction, and window replacement.  WorkCampers will perform over 150 of these projects in just one week this summer.

Fellowship

WorkCamp is an “Intentional Christian Community” and strives to realize the early Christian community as described in Acts 2:42-47.  Few other occasions bring 1300 young people and adults together for a week much less bring them together in such a way as to bring out the best in each person.

Prayer

We draw additional inspiration from the Monastic tradition, particularly Ora et Labora, Latin for “Prayer and Work”.  Prayer is not merely a means for letting God know our intentions.  The highest prayer is close friendship with God, therefore, prayer is in fact an end in and of itself.  Prayer is a constant feature of WorkCamp.  Familiar prayers gain new meaning when said by over a thousand voices.  Many WorkCampers discover new forms of prayer including songs of praise, daily mass, and simply sitting in the presence of our namesake, the Blessed Sacrament itself.
