Blessed Sacrament Community Playground
The Blessed Sacrament Playground Committee has published a Vision Statement addressing our goals to enhance and improve the outdoor environment at Blessed Sacrament (click here to read the Vision Statement). That environment includes the playground, the athletic field, and the retention pond.
To date, we have made very good progress. We have set aside $20,000 in a "Playground Fund" and this year, the PTO plans to allocate additional revenue to this Fund. In January we held a very successful "Planning Day" that was facilitated by the Learning Structures Company, one of the vendors we are considering. That event generated a lot of great design ideas that we are now reviewing. I want to thank the PTO Board, and especially Valarie Warburton, Ellen Hannah, and Stephanie Hurd, for their wonderful leadership on this issue.
At present, we are researching other vendors (in addition to Learning Structures). There is a Diocesan policy that requires competitive bidding. And we also believe it is prudent to do as much homework as possible before committing ourselves to a particular vendor. Our goal is to have at least three proposals ready for the Principal and the Pastor to consider as soon as possible, and no later than the end of the school year. It is our hope that at least one of these proposals will present us with options for the retention pond as well.
We have not forgotten about the athletic field! Our initial focus has been on the playground area. But we know that the athletic field needs a lot of work. It is also important to note that our fundraising must keep pace with our goals and objectives. As the Vision Statement says, we can't achieve all of these enhancements all at once. But we want to keep the momentum going. I know that a lot of you attended Planning Day and signed up to help. We will be calling on you soon! Even if you did not attend Planning Day and would like to offer your assistance, just send me an email. We are particularly interested in ideas for additional fundraising.
